Not quite a beanie and not quite a beret, this hat is somewhere in between. It’s for those that want more circumference than a beanie hat but don’t want to stray into beret territory.
Worked from brim to crown in the round with colour-work, this knitted hat is quick to make and warm to wear.

Finished Measurements
To fit: Child (Teen, Adult) {Large Adult, XL Adult}
Brim circumference: 40 (45,50) {55,60}cm/ 15.75 (17.75, 19.75) {21.75, 23.5}”
Circumference (widest point): 42 (47.5, 53) {58, 63.5}cm/ 16.5 (18.75, 20.75) {22.75, 25}”
Depth (crown centre to bottom of brim): 16.5 (19, 22) {24.5, 27}cm/ 6.5 (7.5, 8.75) {9.75, 10.75}”
Tension/ Gauge
Brim ribbing: 24sts to 10cm/ 4″ and 10 rounds to 2.75cm/ 1″ using 3mm needles.
Colourwork: 34sts and 36 rounds to 10cm/ 4″ using 3mm needles.
Use larger or smaller needles if necessary to obtain correct tension.
Materials Required
John Arbon Textiles Harvest Hues 4ply, 25g/ 100m/ 109yds, 33% Bluefaced Leicester/ 33% Falklands Merino/ 33% Zwartbles
Yarn A: shade Blackthorn, between 12g/ 48m/ 52yds and 21g/ 84m/ 92yds required. Yarn B: shade Bracken, between 6g/ 24m/ 26yds and 13g/ 52m/ 57yds required Yarn C: shade Silver Birch, between 6g/ 24m/ 26yds and 17g/ 68m/ 74yds required Yarn D: shade Loganberry, between 4g/ 16m/ 17yds and 13g/ 52m/ 57yds required Yarn E: shade Burdock, 4g/ 16m/ 17yds and 9g/ 36m/ 39yds required
- 3mm circular needles with 40cm/ 15.75″ & 25cm/ 10″ cables, and/ or 3mm DPNs
- 1 x place markers
- Tapestry needle
- Blocking equipment

cm – centimetre g – gram k – knit k2tog – knit two together m – metre pm – place marker p – purl rep – repeat RS – right side sl1p – slip 1 stitch purlwise st(s) – stitch(es) yds – yards ” – inches
Special Stitches
Invisible Increase: Slip one stitch as if to purl, then with left needle and coming from behind, pick up the left leg of the stitch in the round below the slipped stitch. Knit this lifted stitch through the back loop. 1 stitch increased.
Yarn Substitutes: Any 4ply yarn of the same weight, with similar blend and toothiness to the yarn. If you use a different blend, your gauge may vary and it is possible that you will not have enough yarn to complete all of the rounds.
