If you are a beginner crocheter, you are likely learning how to make treble crochet stitches (tr in UK terminology)/ double crochet stitches (dc in the US).

This is a core stitch to learn. Follow the tutorial below and look for the photos that explain how to crochet a treble crochet stitch.

Here’s how To make Treble crochet/ Double crochet stitches:

Step 1 – Yarn around hook (yrh). Make sure the yarn is going over the top of your hook and not underneath it.

Step 2 – Place the hook through the indicated stitch. This is at the top edge of the fabric and is made up of a front loop and a back loop and the hook goes under both.

Step 3 – Yarn around hook.

Step 4 – Pull up a loop. This is done by hooking the yarn that was just placed over the hook and pulling it from the back of the fabric, through the stitch and to the front of the fabric. This will leave you with three loops on your hook).

Step 5 – Yarn around hook.

Step 6 – Pull yarn just placed over hook through the first two loops on the hook. Two loop left on hook.

Step 7 – Yarn around hook.

Step 8 – Pull yarn just placed over hook through the remaining two loops on the hook to finish the stitch.
