Treble decreases are used to reduce a two treble stitches down to one treble. They are easy to do and are used in many patterns where shaping is required.
Here’s how to crochet a tr2tog (dc2tog):

Step 1 – Yarn around hook.

Step 2 – Hook through first stitch and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook).

Step 3 – Yarn around hook and pull through two loops ( 2 loops left on hook), then tarn around hook again.

Step 4 – Hook through next stitch, yarn around hook and pull up a loop (4 loops on hook).

Step 5 – Yarn around hook and pull through two loops (3 loops left on hook).

Step 6 – Yarn around hook and pull through all three loops to finish a treble decrease.

Step 6 continued – If you look at the anatomy of the treble decrease, you should see an upside down V where the stitch columns of the two trebles have been combined into one stitch at the top.
