A quick step by step photo tutorial on how to do extended double crochet decreases (US extended single crochet decreases).
You will likely see it abbreviated to exdc2tog or edc2tog (US exsc2tog or esc2tog).
Follow the steps below and look for the photos that explain the anatomy of an extended double crochet decrease/ extended single crochet decrease stitch.
Here’s how make an Extended double crochet Decrease/ Extended single crochet Decrease:

Step 1 – Hook through both loops of stitch, from front to back, then yarn around hook.

Step 2 – Pull up a loop by bringing hook and yarn to the front, back through the stitch (2 loops on hook), then yarn around hook.

Step 3 – Pull hook and yarn through 1 loop (2 loops on hook).

Step 4 – Hook through both loops of next stitch from front to back, then yarn around hook.

Step 5 – Pull up a loop by bringing hook and yarn to the front, back through the stitch (3 loops on hook), then yarn around hook.

Step 6 – Pull hook and yarn through 1 loop (3 loops on hook).

Step 7 – Pull hook and yarn through all 3 loops to finish.

It is well worth looking at the anatomy of the finished stitch. Two extended double crochet stitches have now been reduced down to one stitch.
