Hello there! My name is Fay and I am the person behind Fay DH Designs and I confess to being absolutely besotted with all things yarn related.
My first crochet hook was scooped up into my hands back in 2014*, then came knitting and I have never looked back. Wherever I am, there’s a crochet or knitting project in my hands!
Pretty much as soon as I learned the basics, I started to design crochet and knitted accessories. Had you previously asked me if I was ‘creative’, I would have said ‘no, because I don’t write books and I’m rubbish at drawing”. Now though, I realise that creativity is so much more and I am creative.
Beyond being passionate about the amazing sheep breeds we have in the UK and working with proper woolly wool for my designs, I am on a mission to build confidence and skills in other crafters.
There can be a lot of assumed knowledge in crochet and knitting patterns and I want to ensure that I do the heavy lifting for people that buy my patterns. No assumed knowledge, just a clear written pattern with images and external videos where the are needed.

As for my inspiration? I grew up in Scotland and the earthy colour palette of the countryside and urban areas has stuck with me. The items I design are generally inspired by the flora, fauna and architecture of Scotland and sometimes a little further afield.
Style-wise, you can expect elegant, timeless pieces from me. I have a preference for solid colours and simple designs. Don’t be fooled though, because the simple things are the hardest to design. Pared back design has to be flawless and that can be hard to achieve.
*I took my niece along to evening classes. She came out of the first session a little bemused because she thought we were going to learn to play croquet!
